O8 Holiday Series | Joe's Pub at The Public Theater
• Fraulein Maria
Choreographed by Doug Elkins' and Friends

Featuring the Original Cast with Guest Artists
Co-Directed by Barbara Karger and Michael Preston
Produced by Dancenow [NYC] in collaboration with Amy Cassello

Back by overwhelming critical and popular demand, Doug Elkins and the original cast of Fräulein Maria return to Joe's Pub for their third annual holiday season. Fräulein Maria brings a kinetic twist to the timeless classic The Sound of Music with hip hop-influenced lonely goatherds and other urban updates. This romp through Austria and dance history will feature the original cast of downtown dance all-stars including Elkins, vogue icon Archie Burnett, choreographer David Parker, new vaudevillian Mark Gindick, baritone Johnnie Moore, and as dueling Marias - Jennifer Nugent, Arthur Aviles, Nicole Wolcott, Carolyn Cryer and Krista Jansen. The '08 season of Fräulein Maria will feature many surprise guest artists and dance luminaries and, of course, a luscious score by Rodgers & Hammerstein.

“Using nothing much more than songs and his fine dancers, Mr. Elkins's ceaselessly brilliant and often hilarious take on “The Sound of Music” is a fount of unending movement ideas and about as much visceral pleasure as it's possible to have in a theater.” [ Roslyn Sulcas, New York Times Arts & Leisure Critics Pick of the Year, December 2007]

“It's heavenly to watch, and probably even more delicious to perform.”
[Claudia LaRocco, The New York Times, December 2007]
